LANGSTANE PLAYS ITS PART IN A MAJOR DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE

On 1st September, Malcolm Chisholm, MSP, Minister for the Communities, announced the start of a £150 million programme to deliver 1500 new affordable homes throughout the North East of Scotland. The programme, which will be spread over four years, will be managed by Devanha Limited, a special purpose company set up by the five local Housing Associations, Castlehill, Grampian and Langstane Housing Associations, Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership and Tenants First  Housing Co-operative. The houses will be built by contractors selected by Devanha on the basis of collaborative contracts, where Contractor and employer share risk, and share any savings made. It is hoped that by working together in this way, considerable savings can be achieved while maintaining quality.

“Langstane has put a great deal of effort into making the Devanha concept of joint working become a reality.” commented Alan Grant. “It is an exciting time for all of us. In addition to achieving cost savings, by working together, we ought to be in a position to drive up quality standards, and gain other social benefits such as an increase in training opportunities in the construction industry”
